‹ Now they tell us (what the critics had already told us) •
Every once in a while, I peruse certain leftie sites for evidence of humor. When I came across this screed, I first thought that I had come across such a rare gem. It certainly reads like something that I would try to write if I were to parody the left’s paranoia. Alas, I think that the author, Naomi Wolf, is serious. Does anyone remember Naomi Wolf? In the 2000 election, she advised Al Gore on various matters, including sartorial choices. She told him to wear brown suits and not to appear so much like a beta male. Al’s subsequent career of bellowing and raving suggests that he is trying, unsuccessfully so far, to follow Ms. Wolf’s advice.
In her piece, Ms. Wolf connects with the typical left oeuvre, that of the evil Bush-Cheney-Rove conspiracy. A new extension has been added, Sarah Palin. Cheney and Rove are training Palin, a kind of cyborg, to take control of McCain and plunge the U.S. into a police state. Never mind that the only ones who keep getting caught shooting into campaign offices (Tennessee in 2004), trying to run over Republican office holders (Florida guy going after Kathleen Harris in 2004), slashing tires on vans for Republican get-out-the-vote efforts (convictions in Milwaukee), registering dead or fictional voters (Acorn), threatening to sue or bring criminal prosecutions over campaign ads (Obama operatives) are Democrats. In any event, something is amiss. After 8 years of the evil Bush who, by all appearances, is eager to get back to the ranch at Crawford to live out his years in peace, there still seem to be lots of lefties around to warn about the danger that lefties are going to disappear at the hands of the evil Bush and his minions. For one, the ruthlessly efficient Cheney and Rove, now joined by Sarah Barracuda, still have not caught up with the indomitable Ms. Wolf and her courageous fellows in the Resistance at the Huffington Post.
Here’s a representative quote from Ms. Wolf’s cri-de-coeur:
“My childrens’ report cards are returned again and again though perfectly addressed; their invitations are turned back; and my daughters many letters from camp? Vanished. All of them. Not one arrived.”
That proves it. The conspiracy is spreading to the Post Office. Instead of the black helicopters, the sneaky government is sending the little mail vans to get you. The dirty deed has been given to the trusted mailman in the gray shorts.
She certainly has a high opinion of her importance to the Rove-Cheney-Palin cabal. I would think that the evil Republicans have millions of other far more tempting targets than this buffoon whose anxiety that her 15 minutes of fame are up drives her to write this drivel. In the meantime, the piece reads like a parody of liberalism that some conservative provocateur published at the Huffington Post to get viewers’ reactions as part of a psychology experiment.

You should hear Dennis Prager interview Naomi Wolf on 10/1/08. It would have been entertaining if it weren’t so disturbing to hear what she really thought. Highlights include her agnosticism on who attacked us on 9/11.
